Pre-requisites

Delegates must be familiar with Windows, Word Processing or Spreadsheets to attend this course.

By the end of the course delegates will be able to create meaningful project schedules and understand the process of project planning.

Course Content

Overview

Understand the basic principles of project management.

Project window and views

The menu, toolbars and default screen view. Explore the different views available i.e. GANTT chart view, calendar view, Pert chart view, resource graphs and sheets.

New Project

Create a new project. Produce summary information, calendar and project criteria.

Tasks

Enter tasks and project defaults. Edit, move and delete tasks. Link tasks and task dependencies. Attach notes and hyperlinks to tasks.

Save a project

Understand baselines and the Open and Save File options.

Project structure

Indent and outdent tasks. Phasing and milestones. Lag and lead time options. Constraints and their behaviour.

Resources and resource management

Define the use of the resource sheet. Understand the defaults and options available. Allocate resources to tasks. Resource calendar. Schedule conflicts, resource levelling. Remove and replace resources.

Calendar

Change working time and create a new calendar. Individual resource calendars. Exceptions to the chosen project calendar.

Track the project

Monitor progress using the Update Project command, tracking toolbar, and the tracking table.

Multiple projects

Explore the benefits of using project templates. Work with more than one project. Consolidate projects.

Manage data

Sort and filter project data. Focus on the important factors in your schedule.

Avoid the failure to plan

Check the logic behind your schedule and plug the gaps. Clearly communicate relevant project information.
