Who should attend?

The course will suit any user who needs to create a standard form or template. Topics include: worksheet protection, hide rows/columns, data validation, comments and macro buttons.

Pre-requisites

A good working knowledge of Excel. Attendees should be familiar with the standard formatting tools, and the concepts of creating simple calculations. Familiarity with topics covered in module:

Objectives

During the course you will learn how to create a template or shared workbook that is simple for other users to complete/amend. Data validation and cell protection will ensure that the spreadsheet is robust.

Course Content

Formatting

Date, number and custom cell formats. Cell protection. Hide rows and columns. Turn off gridlines and row/column headings.

Data validation

Use data validation to place limits on the data entered in a cell or range of cells. Explore the types of data restrictions i.e. date, decimal, list, whole number.

Data validation messages

Use an Input data validation message to display a note indicating what must be entered in the cell(s). Input Error Alert messages i.e. Information, Stop, and Warning.

Conditional formatting

Understand the use of conditional formatting to highlight formula results or other cell values that you wish to monitor.

Comments

Insert comments to remark on the content of a cell(s).

Password protection

Use password protection to restrict access to a range of cells, sheet or workbook. Understand the protection options. Limit what others can see and change in a shared workbook.

Share workbooks

Understand the implications of sharing workbooks. Track changes to the shared workbook.
